The City is aware of increasing community interest in the proposed works to seal the shoulders of the Vasse Yallingup Siding Road. This public update is to respond to a number of questions being received:
- Following a review of crash data along certain parts of this road, State Black Spot program funding was obtained in 2023 to enable the City to undertake shoulder sealing works to improve road safety.
- A number of approvals need to be sought before any works can be scheduled because to widen the shoulder seals a number of trees and low lying vegetation would need to be removed. These include clearing approvals from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and self referral for environmental approvals from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). Without these approvals, the proposed works cannot proceed.
- It is anticipated that these approvals processes will take approximately 4-6 months (but can be longer subject to requested information), and if approvals are received, the Council will be asked to make a decision about whether to proceed.
- The current speed along this section of road is 90 kph and this speed limit is also under review.
The City appreciates the interest the community has in this matter. Enquiries to: city@busselton.wa.gov.au
