Busselton Foreshore Redevelopment
The Busselton Foreshore redevelopment is a flagship urban renewal project which has been managed by the City of Busselton.
From the restoration of the iconic Busselton Jetty to the construction of a youth precinct, the popular coastal stretch has undergone a spectacular transformation over 10 years.
The result is a thriving destination that is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike with a visitor centre and exhibition space, along with a skate park, nautical-themed playground and walking promenades among the long list of features that have added to the appeal of the area.
Over the years the project has benefited from generous State and Federal funding and enormous community support. The redevelopment is already delivering important social, economic and cultural benefits for the City of Busselton and the South West region which is one of the State’s most popularly visited destinations.

The project has been delivered in three stages over a decade of development. Elements delivered to date include the construction of Railway House, Youth Precinct and Skate Park, Adventure Play Space, Jetty Train Toddlers’ Play Space, Jetty Precinct Amenities, Amphitheatre Stage and Sound Shell, Coastal Defences, Foreshore Parade West Realignment and Barnard Park Sports Pavilion.
Stage 3 Works
Hotel Site 1 Precinct - Car Park and Landscaping Works

About the Project
Redevelopment of this area (known as Hotel Site 1) will connect the Busselton Foreshore, Cultural Precinct and Busselton CBD by removal of the old Tennis Club building and courts to create new car parking, connecting walkways, improving sightlines from Queen Street to the Jetty and Foreshore and providing new landscaping.
The new car park and landscaping works will link the Esplanade Hotel and Marine Terrace to the Busselton Foreshore. As a result, significant additional parking for the Foreshore and the new Busselton Performing Arts and Convention Centre will be provided.
Works include:
- Demolition of existing tennis courts and other infrastructure.
- Construction of 176 car bays
- Installation of street lighting poles and luminaires, vista lights, bollard lights and other lighting equipment.
- Landscaping including turf, trees, garden beds, median island rain gardens and reticulation.
- Exposed aggregate footpaths
- Seating walls
The car park is open to the public - offering free, unlimited parking.

Busselton Tennis Club & Veteran Car Club Relocations

About the Project
The relocation of the Busselton Tennis Club is now complete. The relocation of this facility will free up land within the Foreshore Precinct to allow for more functional use of this space by visitors of all ages whilst providing the club members with new club facilities.

Jetty Precinct Amenities

About the Project
The iconic Jetty Precinct which was always envisaged as a vibrant space for community gatherings and a natural conduit between the town centre and foreshore area.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull visited Busselton July 2017 and announced $1.5 million funding for the Jetty Precinct including stage, amphitheatre and ocean themed children’s playground.
Works completed at the Jetty Precinct:
- A new nautical-themed Adventure Play Space (open to the public, 2 November 2018),
- A dedicated Toddlers’ train themed Play Space (opened 7 December 2018),
- An events space with amphitheatre and sound shell for outdoor events, landscaped picnic areas,
- Connection to ocean swimming and jetty including shower facilities,
- Network of bicycle pathways including drinking water refill stations and bicycle maintenance stations,
- Ample shaded picnic areas,
- Gathering spaces with BBQ and seating, and
- Seasonal market stalls
- Activation of the central jetty area with shade structure and seating
- Walking promenades that connect the central hub with other foreshore precincts.
Other foreshore works soon to be complete:
- Seasonal rotunda to house a carousel
- Exercise stations

Sea Play by the Bay – Adventure Play Space

About the Project
The Adventure Play Space is a world class, nautically-themed adventure playground located at the Busselton Foreshore. The Adventure Play Space incorporates water feature elements reflecting Busselton’s historic connection and affinity with the ocean. It is an engaging, creative, imaginative and challenging space for mixture of ages and abilities.
The Adventure Play Space was delivered on time and within budget and included active participation in rigorous and inventive value engineering exercises to deliver the architect's unique vision. Busselton Foreshore Adventure Play Space will be enjoyed by the public for many years to come.

Jetty Train Toddlers’ Play Space

About the Project
The Busselton Foreshore Jetty Train Toddlers’ Play Space is an exciting feature of the redeveloped foreshore. Adjacent to the beach, Surf Club and Goose Café at the Busselton Jetty, the playground provides a ‘nature play’ area for younger children aged 0-6yrs. Elements are inspired by Busselton’s Jetty Train heritage and were designed to provide children with new and unique challenges at varying degrees of difficulty including: custom recycled timber jetty train platform; recycled timber log and round stepping stones; sand and rubber soft fall; restored original train carriage and engine placed on recycled train tracks; sensory musical garden with mirrored feature walls; and is all contained by a tricycle training circuit pathway. Consideration was given to stimulating all of the senses sight, sound and touch as well as providing platforms and pathways so that the majority of elements are accessible for all.

Commercial Development
The next stage of the Busselton Foreshore Redevelopment will integrate open space and public facilities with existing commercial leases and new private investment.
Ground lease revenues from commercial venues will be directed to maintenance and preservation of the iconic Busselton Jetty and foreshore area reducing the burden on ratepayers both now and into the future.
Hotel Site 2 - Hilton Garden View Hotel Development
Commencing in January 2021, is the 4.5 Star Hilton Garden View Hotel development.
A welcome addition to the Busselton Foreshore, the hotel will offer 110 hotel rooms, bar, restaurant and function space.
Construction is scheduled to commence in January 2021 and the hotel is expected to open in 2023.
The total hotel development value is approximately $19 million.

Microbrewery / Family Restaurant
Shelter Brewing Co. has been developed by a local business family experienced in hospitality and tourism.
This family-friendly facility complements the existing range of services and blends with the foreshore setting.
Shelter Brewing Co. is located adjacent to Foreshore Parade.

About the Project
The Busselton Foreshore is a popular location attracting thousands of visitors each year. The City of Busselton is now extending foreshore upgrade works to the east. Busselton Foreshore East will significantly enhance recreational amenities in East Busselton and Geographe.
The purpose of these improvements aligns with the Busselton Foreshore Masterplan adopted in 2012:
- Enhancing the foreshore experience
- Enhancing access to and usability of the coast
- Maximising pedestrian amenity
- Improve the overall appearance and function of the foreshore
The design of the new amenities area is in keeping with the Busselton Foreshore.
