The City is proud to announce that upgrades to Churchill Park are now complete and are already open to the public to enjoy. The upgrades include improvements to drainage and irrigation, a new synthetic wicket, new “Tiftuf” turf requiring 30% less water and soil amendments to improve water retention, all resulting in more efficient water use.
Mayor Phill Cronin said: “These upgrades will reduce the recovery periods scheduled between sporting activities and will mean the pitches can handle more wear and tear to support increased participation and population. We are a fast growing City and are continually mindful of our need to adapt to a changing climate, so this project was carefully planned to enable participatory sports to thrive into the future”.
Churchill Park is the home of the Busselton City Football Club who hosted both senior and junior girls matches with players from across the Leeuwin Naturaliste Junior Soccer Association the first weekend the new pitches were open. The City thanks the BCFC and other users for their understanding during the implementation of this project.
