The City of Busselton has issued its annual Bushfire Risk Reduction Notice for 2024-2025. This comes after the biggest review of the notice in ten years which was undertaken in collaboration with the community and key stakeholders. The new Notice delivers clear and simple messaging to assist property owners meet their obligations under the Bush Fires Act 1954.
The changes to the Notice have been designed to ensure a balanced approach to the mitigation of bushfire risks, and all property owners should now have received their new Bushfire Risk Reduction Notice in the post. Each Notice issued aligns with the category a property has been assigned, and the information has been prepared to deliver clearer, simple messaging to assist property owners to understand and meet their obligations.
Mayor Phill Cronin said “I would personally like to thank all of the key community stakeholders involved in the development of the new Notice. Your input was vital in helping us get this right and ensuring our community is supported and prepared for bushfire.”
“I urge all property owners to ensure they understand the new requirements and commence preparing their property ahead of the fire season. I also encourage community members to come along to one of the drop-in sessions being held in Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup in September and October to learn more about the updated Notice and to ask any questions.”
The Notice applies to all properties within the City and comes into effect on 15 November 2024. Properties must be maintained throughout the period until 30 April 2025 and property owners are encouraged to contact the City early if they wish to discuss a variation.
