Australia Day 2025

Published on Wednesday, 29 January 2025 at 12:03:50 PM

As part of the Australia Day celebrations held in both Busselton and Dunsborough, the City performed two Citizenship Ceremonies and presented the Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

Australia Day is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to reflect, respect and celebrate being part of our nation’s story.

On 26 January 2025 thousands of people became citizens at hundreds of ceremonies taking place across the country, including right here in Busselton and Dunsborough. More than 14,600 people from over 150 countries were invited to become citizens on Australia Day with more than 280 ceremonies conducted across Australia. From 11 different nations, 15 new citizens took to the stage in Busselton and 5 new citizens in Dunsborough.

Mayor Phill Cronin said: “One of my most rewarding roles as Mayor is the privilege of conducting Australian Citizenship ceremonies. It’s a truly special opportunity to welcome new citizens and inspire them to actively engage in and contribute to their local community. To all our new Australians, thank you and congratulations.”

“The Community Citizen of the Year Awards also took place as part of the Australia Day celebrations. The awards recognise individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to our community. Many dedicated volunteers generously give their time and without their invaluable contributions, many of the services and benefits that enrich our community would simply not be possible. The City extends its congratulations to all the nominees and winners at this year’s awards.”
