Proposed Federal Offshore Wind Area – Special Council Meeting to be held on 1 May 2024

Published on Monday, 29 April 2024 at 9:53:20 AM

A Special Electors Meeting was recently called by members of the community with their purpose being for Council “to hear the views of the electors in regard to the proposed implementing and construction of a Wind Turbine Farm in Geographe Bay”.

The Federal Government’s advertised proposals relate to the potential designation of an offshore wind area where development of offshore wind projects will be considered in future. The City has not been involved in the development of these proposals and has no jurisdiction over the area being considered. However, through this meeting held on Wednesday 24 April 2024, Council was able to hear a range of views about the proposals from a number of community members in attendance. A recording of the Special Electors Meeting held last week is available on the City’s YouTube.

During the meeting, 6 motions were moved and voted on by attendees. These included several requests for Council to write to a range of politicians and government agencies to ask them to respond to specific questions relating to the Federal Government’s proposals. Council must now give consideration to these motions and will make a decision regarding each one at a Special Council Meeting which has been called for 1 May 2024 at 5.30pm. The agenda for this meeting is available below:

The community is reminded that the Federal Government’s consultation process relating to the proposed offshore wind area remains open until 3 May 2024. The City encourages people in the community to put their views to the Federal Government directly through their portal >>
