The City of Busselton has been awarded over $300K of grants from the State Government for innovative projects designed to increase water availability for firefighting, reduce pressure on scheme water, and improve non-potable water networks.

The City will receive $47,830 to install 37 water tank level sensors across emergency water tanks, enabling real-time monitoring, early leak detection, and automated alerts to better manage water resources.

Additionally, the City will receive $262,000 for three projects to expand the Dunsborough Non-Potable Water Network. This expansion will enhance water access for emergency services and support irrigation for public open spaces, reducing the community's current reliance on scheme water.

Mayor Phill Cronin welcomed the announcement: “In July 2023 the City commenced a feasibility trial of water level sensors in a small number of emergency water tanks. This successful pilot project was proven to be effective in providing real-time monitoring and alerts, ensuring tanks remain full and operational. With the support of a new grant, we will expand this technology to all emergency water tanks within the municipality, enhancing our ability to manage water supplies efficiently and respond swiftly to any issues such as leaks or theft.”

“This advanced monitoring system significantly boosts our emergency response capacity, allowing first responders to quickly assess water availability during crises. The real-time data and alerts not only improve our preparedness but also ensure a more sustainable and secure water supply for the entire community” he said.

These innovative projects will support local firefighting efforts, enhance public open spaces, and ensure better water management for emergency needs.

Objectives outlined in this statement are aligned with the City of Busselton’s Council Plan (2024 - 2034) Key Theme Lifestyle – Our community is safe, welcoming and inclusive, with access to services and facilities to support good health and wellbeing.
