e-scooters

Neuron Mobility provides a hireable e-scooter service to the Busselton community as an alternative and flexible mode of transport to explore our beautiful city.

The permitted riding area includes the Busselton city centre and surrounding suburbs including Geographe, West Busselton, Broadwater and Abbey. The riding area also extends along the Dunsborough Coastal Path and into Dunsborough city centre.

Members of the public are able to hire e-scooters from designated parking locations across these areas by downloading the Neuron Mobility app and scanning the code on an e-scooter.

Basic e-scooter rules

  • Riders must be over 16 years old to hire an e-scooter
  • Riders must wear a helmet
  • Neuron e-scooters have speed controls installed, meaning the maximum speeds permitted are 10km/hr on footpaths and 25km/hr elsewhere
  • Be respectful of pedestrians and other path users
  • Make sure you return your scooter to a dedicated parking area

The complete list of rules is available on the Road Safety Commission website.

FAQs

How can riders get started?

Riders will be able to book and use the e-scooters through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes. Fill details in the app, add a payment method, scan the QR code on the e-scooter, helmet on, safety checks, end trip, park safely, return the helmet and take an image.

What are the hours of service?

24-hour service.

How fast can they be ridden?

It’s legal to ride 25km/h on bike paths and shared roads. They can be ridden on footpaths at 10km/h.

How are the e-scooters protected from theft and misuse, and what should you do if they see the misuse of an e-scooter?

In terms of where our e-scooters are ridden and parked, they are fitted with GPS and are controlled by geofencing. E-scooters cannot be ridden out of the riding area, they lose power entirely. Neuron’s e-scooters also have topple detection which means that if they are left on their side their ground ops team gets an alert and then moves to reposition it safely. Geofencing also controls speed in some areas.

Neuron e-scooters are all fitted with registration plates on the back and front, which makes it easy for people to report any issues. We encourage members of the public to report irresponsible behaviour or vandalism to the Neuron team. There are details on how to do this on all of our e-scooters and our website.

Is there a minimum age limit for riding an e-scooter?

The terms of service, and the WA Government require that riders be at least 16 years old in Western Australia.

Are all riders insured in Australia?

Yes. Neuron has significant public liability insurance and all riders in Australian cities are covered by personal accident insurance and third party insurance. This goes well beyond what is required by law and beyond a private e-scooter or bike for instance. More information can be found on Neuron website.
